Why are my DTF transfers peeling after pressing?
Most peeling starts with incomplete adhesion. The adhesive powder on the transfer needs the right combination of heat, pressure and dwell time to bond properly with the garment. If one of those three is off, the print may appear attached at first, but it has not truly set into the fabric surface.
Temperature is a common culprit. If your press is running colder than the display says, the adhesive may not melt and bond evenly. This happens more often than people think, especially with older presses or budget machines that have hot and cold spots across the platen. A transfer pressed in the centre may behave differently from one pressed near the edge.
Pressure causes just as many problems. Too light, and the adhesive does not make full contact with the fibres. Too heavy, and you can distort the print or over-compress the garment in a way that affects the finish. DTF needs firm, even pressure, not guesswork.

Garment texture matters as well. A very uneven weave, loose fibres or fleece-like finish can stop the transfer from sitting flat during application. If parts of the design are bridging over the fabric instead of bonding into it, peeling is much more likely.

Why are my DTF transfers peeling after washing?
If the print survives pressing but fails after a wash, the most likely issue is still poor initial bonding. Washing does not usually create the problem from nowhere. It exposes a bond that was weak from the start.
That said, wash conditions can make a marginal application fail faster. High temperatures, harsh detergents, fabric conditioner and aggressive tumble drying all put stress on the transfer edge. Turning garments inside out helps, and cooler wash settings are generally better for print longevity.
The timing of the first wash also matters. If a garment is washed too soon after pressing, before the transfer has fully settled and cooled properly, that can reduce durability. For customer orders, it is worth including clear care guidance so a good press job is not ruined at home.
If only certain garments in a batch peel after washing, look at consistency. Was the press loaded differently? Did thicker seams stop full pressure? Were some items slightly damp from storage? Small production differences create mixed results.
Cold peel, hot peel and peeling mistakes

Moisture, lint and contamination are easy to miss
Garments rarely arrive press-ready straight out of the box. Moisture in the fabric, lint on the surface, sizing residues and general dust all interfere with adhesion. That is why a quick pre-press matters. It removes moisture, smooths the print area and gives you a cleaner surface to work with.
Skipping this step is a false economy. A few seconds saved before pressing can turn into remakes later.
Lint is especially a problem on darker garments, hoodies and fleecier materials. If fibres sit between the adhesive and the garment, the transfer bonds to contamination rather than to the fabric itself. The print may look fine initially and then begin lifting once worn.

If peeling continues, change one variable at a time. Do not alter temperature, time and pressure all at once or you will not know what solved it. Increase pressure slightly, or extend press time within safe limits, and test again on the same garment type.
Also pay attention to the garment itself. If one blank range keeps failing while another works perfectly, the issue may be compatibility rather than application skill. In that case, changing garments is often faster and cheaper than trying to force a bad combination to work.
Reliable DTF should feel straightforward. Order, press, peel. If it is becoming unpredictable, the process needs tightening somewhere.
When the transfer quality is actually the issue
